Getting Out of Debt Using What You Have
Step One to Building Your Dream Life
I know what it feels like to have a lot of debt and to wonder how you got into that situation. Instead of spending all of my time stressing over what went wrong, I decided to take control of my situation and build the lifestyle that I deserve to have. The purpose of this blog is to share with you the steps that I used to get out of debt and maybe it will help others who may need to get rid of their debt. I would like to say I took an extra job, like most, but I did not. I have been self-employed since I left the military, years ago, so getting a job was not at the top of my list of things to do. This is not to discourage you from getting a job. If you feel you must get a job or if it will help you improve your situation quickly by all means, take the job. Having been self-employed for so long I only knew how to be self-employed, and although I thought it would be easy to get a job, it was not! Nevertheless, I still needed to bring in more money to get out of debt. The first thing I did, was I got a roommate who had a steady income and could help with the bills. This freed up some capital to help me pay my other bills.
Here are some other things I did to get out of debt:
-I started to podcasts and got sponsors immediately.
-I made a list of all my debts and arrange them in the order of the ones that will be paid off first.
-to bring in more capital, I did freelance work.
-I became a fan of making lists: grocery lists, budget lists, the clutter list, etc.
-I clipped coupons. I downloaded them online and clipped coupons from our daily local sale papers. You can check here for coupons for brands like Samsung.
-I wrote out what I wanted my network to be and visualized it daily.
-I only drove when necessary.
-I did not cut up my credit cards, but I had the discipline not to use them and I paid them off.
-I stopped eating out and began preparing my own healthier foods.
-I ate more vegetables and less meat.
-I got a cell phone where I had to buy my minutes.
-I tracked my financial situation once every two weeks.
-I expanded my thinking and challenge myself to come up with ideas that would help me produce a larger income.
-I refrained from making large purchases.
The list above is some of the things that I did to get out of debt. I also had a car that was completely paid for. Although, it was not new anymore, I refused to go out and buy a new car. No longer having a car payment, freed up quite a bit of cash. Although, I didn’t stress out over what I had done wrong or done to get into debt, I did take the time to outline how I was going to manage my financial life now that the debt was gone. It doesn’t matter where you are today in your financial situation. If you want to get out of debt, start by making the decision and let go of any guilt or anything that happened in the past and decide that you are going to have the net worth that you deserve.
